At WEST, we know that Western Sydney is home to some of the finest restaurants serving world-class food using quality produce. So, it comes as no surprise that internationally renowned chef and restauranteur Sean Connolly’s Steak & Oyster Co. has found its home in the heart of Greater Sydney.
Invited to a sit-down lunch prepared by Sean and his team, we were treated to an exquisite menu showing off just how good the produce and flavours are.
For decades, Sean Connolly has wowed the public with his sophisticated yet creatively simple dishes at his hatted restaurants around Australia and New Zealand. And now, elevating his seafood expertise, Sean’s widely popular Steak & Co has relaunched as Steak & Oyster Co.
Since 2019, this premium seafood and meat restaurant is inspired by the 1950s butcher shop, and has a fit out to match. Finding its place in Eat Street Central in West HQ, Western Sydney’s landmark entertainment and dining precinct in Rooty Hill, Steak & Oyster Co is right home here among other acclaimed venues including CHU by China Doll, and Stefano Manfredi’s Pizzaperta Manfredi, as well as the Sydney Coliseum Theatre.
Seated in the spacious open plan dining area, we were blown away by the brand-new extended seafood menu. At the forefront is Sean’s emphasis on making high-quality ingredients the hero of every dish – something that came through as he joined us at the table.
Fitting with the butchers shop theme, we are in love with the brand new ‘Ocean Shelf’ which displays fresh seafood produce – we’re talking about Tasmanian salmon cutlet, Humpty Doo barramundi fillet, Sword fish steak, and King prawns.
Also on display, is the Butchers’ Window where you’ll find the fresh meat cuts, premium steaks, and the mouth-watering crumbed lamb cutlets, all supplied by Riverine Premium Beef company Haverick Meats. We love the concept of proudly displaying this fresh produce ready to be ordered and prepared. We had no doubt that what we were eating was of the finest quality and freshness.
Of course, when it comes to the menu, you’ll find favourites taken from the much-loved menu as well as new dishes Sean has created for the relaunch. These additions include the decadent Smoked Texan brisket burger with Bourbon chipotle and cabbage slaw – delicious from bun to bun! We were in awe of the one-kilogram feast of Boston Bay mussels freshly caught and prepared.
And of course, the Freshly shucked oysters are to die for. Known as The King Of Oysters, Sean has sold over 5 million oysters in his career – see them fresh in the window, and enjoy them with salt, lemon, and a tangy sauce.
Naturally, everything goes down better with a glass of wine, so the bespoke wine menu is a much-appreciated addition.
Whether you’re craving something slow roasted, charred, grilled, or even pan fried, Steak & Oyster Co. has nailed it. So, if you’re any kind of a foodie, West HQ is the place to treat yourself to your next long lunch or dinner.
And of course, you might even catch a glimpse at Sean Connolly working away in the kitchen doing what he does best. Steak & Oyster Co. is the type of restaurant you’ll find yourself returning to time and time again!
