Join the Festivities in Western Sydney

Lunar New Year celebrations are endlessly joyful, full of colorful spectacles, celebrations, and of course, great food. These festivities last for several weeks. In Western Sydney, the Fairfield City Council is a hub of Lunar New Year celebrations. Among its suburbs, Cabramatta stands out as the best place to visit during the Lunar New Year celebrations for the Year of the Snake. Welcome to a place of discovery, naturally shared by WEST.

The Lunar New Year marks the transition from the Year of the Dragon to the Year of the Snake. This year, thousands of revelers can join WEST and other participants on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Fairfield City Council's iconic Cabramatta Lunar New Year festival.

Welcome the Year of the Wood Snake

The Lunar New Year 2025 arrives with the Wood Snake. This year is particularly special. The combination of the snake, known for its wisdom and transformative energy, with the wood element symbolizes growth, stability, and creativity. Celebrating this unique pairing is a significant event that occurs only once every 60 years.

Cabramatta will host a jam-packed day and night full of tantalizing Asian cuisine, culture, color, and creativity throughout the precinct. The vibrant community looks forward to sharing its rich heritage with everyone attending the festivities.

A Spectacle to Remember

Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone emphasized that the Cabramatta precinct will be buzzing with activity.

Cabramatta Lunar New Year brings together people from all over Sydney to celebrate our wonderful diversity and connect with one of the most important dates of the Lunar Calendar,” Mayor Carbone said. “Festivities will kick off at 11am with the official ceremony and lion dancing, followed by roving entertainment, live calligraphy demonstrations, and captivating culturally-rich performances into the night.

Traditions and Festivities

The Lunar Year brings good fortune and luck. Celebrations during this festival frequently include parties, firecrackers, and the famous lion dance. In many families, younger members receive bright red envelopes filled with money during the early days of the Lunar New Year. Celebrations can last for 15 days, focusing on family gatherings, good food, shopping, and culminate with Lantern festivals, more fireworks, and delicious sweets.
