I first encountered The WEST Journal at a cafe in Lidcombe. Drawn by its understated orange cover, I unknowingly picked up a publication that would immerse me in Western Sydney's hidden gems for the next two years.

Working at WEST taught me to pause and appreciate the beauty of places and moments we often overlook. I was proud to photograph small businesses, murals, public art, and signature dishes that, for many in the community, were simply the backdrop to their lives. WEST stands out because it bridges Western Sydney's diverse suburbs—highlighting their unity and proximity while celebrating their unique differences.

Collaborating with businesses across many sectors was another highlight of my time at WEST. It was easy to connect with hardworking people united by a shared desire to showcase the beauty of their area. WEST works seamlessly with councils, small businesses, large companies, artists, theatres, restaurants, and everything in between. The fluidity of these relationships—and the way they found a natural home within The WEST Journal—solidified my confidence in its vision.

I look back on my time at WEST fondly, recognising its immense potential. Western Sydney is always evolving, and while we all know change is inevitable, there must also be space for celebration and positive conversation. That’s exactly what WEST achieves.
